Overview 

UAW Local 872 is currently made up of graduate student workers at the University of Southern California. Our union is looking for organizers to join our work to build a strong and self-sustaining local union. This posting is for multiple part-time positions open on a rolling basis with start dates as early as August 1st, 2024. Full-time equivalent (FTE) allocation will depend on field assignments and other factors. 

Job Duties 

  • Conduct one-to-one organizing conversations with workers in person, over the phone, and on Zoom.
  • Identify, develop, and support leaders in assigned departments to increase the capacity of our local union.
  • Support leaders in the facilitation of departmental, divisional, and/or campus organizing committees.
  • Follow up with potential and current members to ensure ongoing engagement.
  • Connect members and leaders to union resources and support systems.
  • Manage data and trackers related to assigned departments.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Job Requirements 

  • Highly organized, able to prioritize tasks, and consistently and independently follow through.
  • Responsive and communicative through email, text, and Slack.
  • Collaborative with other organizers.
  • At least 6 months of experience with member-to-member labor organizing; other relevant experience will be considered.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to regularly work in person on the assigned campus and occasionally at other sites in Los Angeles (e.g., UAW Region 6 office in Pico Rivera, other USC campuses and worksites).
  • Knowledge of Google Workspace and Zoom.
  • Preference for applicants to be current graduate student workers at USC.
  • We are unable to sponsor a visa at this time. 

Pay 

  • Annual salary is $40,000 for .5 FTE, $26666.67 for .33 FTE, and $20,000 for .25 FTE. 
  • No benefits will be provided.
