Get Involved with Your Union!

We stepped up to organize ourselves into a union. Now we have a contract to enforce, a UAW Local number on our back, and our own democratic organizational structure to build. Our union is by us, for us, and there are ways for us all to get involved. If any of the opportunities below speak to you, or if you have an initiative you’d like to lead, please contact info@gswoc-usc.org!

Stewardship

Union stewards are elected union officials which represent the bargaining unit members in their area. They commit themselves to building the power of the Local Union through leadership in contract enforcement, member education, and membership organizing. The number of stewards in each area is determined by membership, where one steward is alloted for every 30 members with a minimum of two stewards per area. The following steward positions are open for nomination during the next steward election:

  • Electrical and Computer Engineering has two (2) open steward positions, including lead steward.
  • Computer Science has two (2) open steward positions, including lead steward.
  • Physical Sciences and Math has two (2) open steward positions.
  • Life Sciences has three (3) open steward positions.
  • Health Sciences has four (4) open steward positions.
  • Social Sciences and Psychology has two (2) open steward positions.
